The Poodle
Whether Toy, miniature,or standard size all poodles are distinguished by their adult shoulder height.
While multi-color poodles are not allowed to be shown in the American Kennel Club (AKC), Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) or any Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) dog shows, they can be shown in the United Kennel Club (UKC) show ring and in all performance rings.
The FCI lists the Poodles country of origin as France, some experts believe they originated in Russia or Iberia.
However, the French are responsible for developing the modern breed into its current three sizes: standard, miniature, and toy.
Poodles are skilled at most other dog events including agility, obedience, tracking, and even herding.
Today the Poodle is divided into two breeds: the Standard Poodle, used primarily as a hunting dog and companion animal, and the Poodle, a combination of both he Miniature and Toy varieties, which serves primarily as companion breed.
The Poodle was recognized by United Kennel Club in 1914.
